Following the success of Luminarium: Myriad in 2025, Lakeside Arts once more welcomes the Architects of Air’s incredible inflatable structures this May. So, why should you visit?

Because it’s an experience like no other.
While immersive art is becoming more and more popular, nothing is as unique as a Luminarium. Step inside this incredible architecture, where natural light warms these vibrant, inflatable domes. Take a moment to look up into the light shining down, and breathe in the calm, ethereal atmosphere.

Because the Architects of Air are Nottingham locals.
The Luminarium’s creators have strong ties with the Nottingham community – architect Alan Parkinson first began working here with inflatable structures on projects with young offenders in the 1980s.Since then, the Architects of Air have toured their creations in over 40 countries but maintain a close relationship with their Nottingham roots. In fact, the Luminariums are built today in a renovated lace factory – nothing says Nottingham much more than that!

Because everyone is welcome.
This community focus also highlights the inclusivity at the heart of Luminarium: Timisien. Specially designed sessions cater for all audiences, from quiet SEND sessions to adult-only evenings, which are perfect to explore with friends or on a relaxing date night. The Luminarium also provides fun for all ages, with children especially enjoying the out-of-this-world experience of discovering a different, inflatable planet.

Because every year is different.
No two Luminariums are the same, and this time, Timisien is inspired by its namesake Romanian city: the European Capital of Culture in 2023.Timisien’s unique design features 20 domes to explore, with a central labyrinth and two large outer spheres to relax in. For the main dome, the Architects of Air were particularly inspired by the curved ceiling of Gaudi’s Casa Guell in Barcelona and the heptagonal architecture of Iranian mosques. These influences reflect the beauty of simplicity found in a Luminarium, and the peace you can find, clearing your head amongst high ceilings of light and colour.

Because it’s not here forever!
Luminarium: Timisien is only open from Sat 23 – Sun 31 May 2026, making it a fun-filled, half-term holiday treat. The limited tickets ensure you’ll have the space to fully explore but demand will be high for such a popular event. And, merging art and sensory experience into walkable creation, Luminarium: Timisien is not to be missed.
