Join us to celebrate the University's talented student instrumentalists this autumn.
University Philharmonia’s autumn concert is youthful in spirit featuring Mendelssohn’s first symphony composed at the age of 15. It was premiered at his older sister Fanny’s birthday in 1824. In 1832 Fanny Mendelssohn completed her sparkling Overture in C major, her only purely orchestral work and one which was unpublished until after her death. Second-year Music student Chiara Ponticos is the soloist in Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto composed for the gifted 15-year old Spanish violinist Pablo Sarasate.
