The Gigspanner Big Band are a unique force in British folk music. Beginning life as a trio – with legendary Steeleye Span fiddle player Peter Knight joined by percussionist Sacha Trochet and guitarist Roger Flack – the line-up has been expanded, with acclaimed multi-instrumental duo Edgelarks (Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin - BBC Folk Awards 'Best Duo') and Bellowhead co-founder and melodeon player extraordinaire, John Spiers, joining the fray.

Characterised by riotous inventiveness, technically gifted individual playing and subtle collaborative interaction, this coming together of several of the biggest names on the folk-roots scene, combines a deep knowledge of roots traditions with a ceaselessly boundary-pushing approach.

Here, the folk ‘super group’ perform their third and latest album, Turnstone. Released to critical acclaim in April 2025, the album is a masterclass in innovation, experimentation and exemplary musicianship while still being anchored firmly to the world of traditional folk.

This programme replaces the Gigspanner Big Band and Raynor Winn performance of Saltlines. Ticket bookers are being contacted about this change in programme.

Gigspanner Big Band’s ‘Turnstone’ is a career-defining release from one of folk’s most powerfully creative groups.”

KLOF Mag

The multi-talented six-piece soar on their most accomplished album yet, led by the exceptional fiddle-playing of Peter Knight.”
