BACH Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 One of the masterpieces of the Baroque period, the Goldberg Variations are often regarded as the most ambitious composition ever written for harpsichord. Based on a single ground bass air, the 30 variations display an amazing variety of styles and moods and require a virtuoso technique from the performer. Matthew Halls has established a reputation as one of the leading performers of the younger generation of Baroque musicians performing with ensembles including the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Sonnerie, The Sixteen, The Academy of Ancient Music and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He regularly performs as a duo with violinist Monica Huggett and as a concerto soloist in major international festivals.
