with English subtitles Dir Oliver Hirshbiegel Germany 2004 2hrs 35mins with Bruno Ganz, Alexandra Maria Lara, Corinna Harfouch. Set in Berlin in 1945, this powerful drama retells the final days of the Second World War as recorded in the diaries of Adolf Hitler’s private secretary, Traudl Junge, while barricaded with Hitler and his closest confidants in the Führer’s secret bunker. The film sparked fierce debate in Germany as it was the first film to broach the subject of Hitler head-on since GW Pabst’s 1955 film The Last Act (Der Letzte Akt).
