In Mirrors, Kopinski's new compositions are shaped by visual elements, using jazz and improvisation to create a highly personal reflection upon a world of dislocation, memory and transition. The music also explores those impressions of folk, religious and contemporary music that beguiled modern Polish composers such as Szymanowski. With the shimmering voice of Melanie Pappenheim, Steve Iliffe's glowering piano and Kopinski's volatile saxophone are instensely intuitive. The mixture of scored and improvised music set to video projectons is a performance of eloquence and danger. The Mirrors project was intially developed with support from Opera North Projects.
