Bartók String Quartet No.1 Beethoven String Quartet Op.95 in F minor Serioso Bartók String Quartet No.4 The Allegri, Quartetin- Residence at Nottingham University celebrate their 50th anniversary season this year. They continue our series with a performance of Bartok’s Quartet No.1, an emotional work inspired by Bartók's unrequited love for the violinist Stefi Geyer. His Fourth Quartet is a less introspective work: an evocation of a nightscape with trees, birdsong and the movement of insects. Beethoven’s Serioso quartet has a grandeur and purposefulness akin to his late period quartets. “questing and inexhaustible intelligence… a determination to prise open the music's heart” The Times
