Ravel Chansons Madécasses Edward Dudley Hughes Light Cuts through Dark Skies Arnold Schoenberg Pierrot Lunaire Op.21 (1912) The New Music Players was founded by the composer Edward Dudley Hughes and is one of the most engaging of the young contemporary classical ensembles. They have made several commercial CDs, worked with leading composers, broadcast many times on BBC Radio 3, appeared at major UK Festivals and toured in Europe Profoundly moving, Pierrot Lunaire is a seminal work full of imagery and drama, a tour de force blending the comic and poetic. Pierrotis framed by Ravel’s evocative settings of de Parny’s ‘Madagascan’ poems and Edward Dudley Hughes’ delicate score to a screening of Joris Ivens’ 1929 film classic Regen (Rain).
