Il Vero Modo’s approach is to research and rediscover techniques that musicians of the time employed to perform and transform music, often far beyond the original ideas of the composer. Nearly all music in the Renaissance and early Baroque was rooted in song and the aim of the instrumentalist was to imitate the voice as closely as possible. In this programme, the cornetto becomes a second voice, a virtuoso instrument, imitating the singer in dazzling improvised embellishments.
