Free, just turn up
One body of work consisting of 13 performances, in 13 different locations around sunset time. Three performers enter and exit a public space and engage in a non-scripted ritual of rhythmical clapping allowing a series of failures, successes and familiar rhythms to unravel. By deconstructing the folk music and dances of the Eastern Mediterranean and European region, the rhythms and vibrations become an accommodating platform for an essential meeting with the present moment and location. The aim of this work is to reach for a sense of collectiveness. Through the repetition, clapping grows to become a new kind of ritual, a reflection on our collective memory, a celebration of our meeting, a praise for our achievements, an encouragement for action. The openness and inviting nature of the piece allows it to transform every time it is shared, and consequently -depending on the public- a new performance is created each time.
