Take Us as We Are is an autobiographical performance that explores Romany Gypsy heritage and culture. Unapologetic and interrogative, the work is embellished by truth and takes nomadic form as it forces the public eye to consider Liza’s presence/female Gypsy presence. A thought-provoking performance with themes of family, pride, innocence and identity.

Liza Mortimer is a dance/performance artist currently working in Leicester. Her creative practice is centered around her Romany Gypsy heritage and culture, where she works with improvisation; gesture; documentation; recorded interviews and archive material, as well as projection and acting. She is a performer for a physical theatre company, Fuelled Dance Theatre, and is currently studying for her Masters at De Montfort University.
