David Matthews)Les Nuits d'Ėté Op.7 Dallapicolla Piccola musica notturna Dvořák (arr. Frantisek Hertl)Serenade for wind and strings in D minor Op.44 A sumptuous programme for a midsummer evening from Viva: orchestra of the east midlands and celebrated mezzo-soprano, Ann Murray. Much sought after as an opera performer, concert artist and recitalist, Ann Murray has close links to both English National Opera and the Royal Opera House for whom she has sung numerous roles. In Les Nuits d'Ėté Berlioz settings of poems by Gautier: reflections on disappointed love and longing with light yet richly coloured textures throughout. The sensuousness of Debussy’s music had a huge impact on Luigi Dallapiccola, whose lyrical little night music has been described as his most perfect work. Dvorak’s idomatic and charming Serenade completes the evening.
