A rehearsed reading of a short play by Richard Marshall
Directed by Martin Berry

George Green was in poor health when in 1840 he returned from Cambridge to spend his final year in Sneinton with Jane Smith, the mother of his seven children.  Bound by the rules of University Fellowship, the former miller was not permitted to marry his lifelong partner and legitimise his family.  At the time of his death, George Green's mathematical genius was unrecognised.  It would be another five years before the importance of his Essay was grasped by the international scientific community and Green's legacy was secured.  Meanwhile, his family struggled to maintain a respectable place in an increasingly moralistic Victorian society.
