HENRI TEXIER & STRADA SEXTET
Remparts d’argile Henri Texier Trio Vivre Strada Sextet A towering figure in European jazz, recognised both as a gifted composer and a bass virtuoso, Henri Texier’s music is fired by the spirit of a jazz tradition learnt in the ‘60s alongside the likes of Bud Powell, Kenny Clarke, Dexter Gordon and Don Cherry. With his roots firmly in the core French jazz scene (working with Louis Sclavis, Michel Portal, Aldo Romano and many more), Texier’s creative journey has drawn him into the landscape and sounds of Africa and the Mahgreb, as well as reflecting the cultures and shifting communities of today’s Europe. His mesmerizing sound and visionary style continues to enchant a new generation of followers. This tour explores two contrasting sides of Henri Texier’s current work. His trio, featuring Christophe Marguet (drums) and his son Sebastien Texier (alto saxophone, clarinet and alto clarinet) opens with an evocative response to Jean-Louis Bertuccelli’s extraordinary 1970 film ‘Remparts d’argile’ (a portrayal of the life and aspirations of a village deep in the North African desert). The musicians are joined in the second half by Francois Corneloup (baritone and soprano saxophones), Gueorgui Kornazov (trombone), and Manu Codjia (guitar) to form the Strada Sextet, who will perfom works from their outstanding new album Vivre.
