Debussy Selection of Preludes from Book II John Adams China Gates Satie Gymnopedies Bartok Sonata Rolf Hind Sunnata Karen Tanaka Cristalline Messiaen Canteyodjaya In an exciting venture, Lakeside has commissioned Rolf Hind - Britain’s best-known exponent of contemporary classical piano music and BBC Proms regular - to write a new work for performance by five University of Nottingham student pianists. The work will be presented as part of an evening concert by Rolf Hind giving the students a rare opportunity to share the concert platform with a distinguished artist. "Sunnata a Buddhist philosophical principle of emptiness or void; it couldn't be more different from Sonata - the Western form which is the acme of discourse and rationalism, taming the abstract in sound. The piece lasts ten minutes and is for six instruments which actually play mostly in unison, but, the mind playing its tricks, seem not to. As in a lot of the things I've written, the musical emphasis is on perspective, and a kind of endless circularity." - Rolf Hind With grateful thanks to The Britten-Pears Foundation, The Holst Foundation and The Radcliffe Trust for their kind contributions towards the commissioning of this new work.
