Originally from a village near Oporto, Portugal, Claudia Aurora sings fado, traditional Portuguese folk-blues. She began singing the fado songs sung by her grandmother, a chef and the woman from whom Claudia takes her stage name. As a contemporary fado song-writer, Claudia Aurora's own songs deal with the traditional fado themes of life, destiny, longing, love and despair. Her debut album 'Silencio' and her performances at WOMAD, the Southbank Centre and across Europe with her four-piece ensemble comprising guitar, bouzouki, cello and double bass have enchanted and mesmerised audiences.
