Sean Foran Piano John Parker Drums Pat Marchisella Acoustic Bass Trichotomy is one of Australia’s most inventive contemporary music ensembles. So much more than a traditional jazz trio, this group expands the capacities of the classic piano/bass/drums combination with elements of the avant-garde and the fresh attitude they bring to their music. Truly captivating for a variety of audiences, Trichotomy skillfully blends dense, exciting improvisations and delicate atmospherics, conjuring up sounds of modern jazz, ambient music, avant-garde rock, free improvisation and contemporary classical music. BBC Music Magazine "this is a genuine trio, with three equally important parts, and they never put a foot or finger wrong" 5 stars! Jazzwise "very ‘now'-sounding...beautifully poised" The Guardian "These three make the resources of the conventional piano trio go a long way." The Evening Standard "tuneful, scholarly approach to improvisation recalls the lyricism of EST and energy level of The Bad Plus...excellent" "...fresh and exciting-and, yes, varied. Variations should be the album that propels Trichotomy to world-wide recognition" “an absorbing performance from a band with an intriguingly original approach to music-making” Sydney Morning Herald The Gentle War is - “The bands most vibrant album in it’s history” The Age “So many surprises and exquisite moments” The Courier Mail "Variations, quite simply, is dazzling, building on the band's interests in improvisation, the avant- rock of later Radiohead and the minimalism often associated with European jazz label ECM."
