Dvorak Piano Quartet in D major Op.23 Mozart Piano Quartet in E flat K493 Dvorak Piano Quartet in Eb major Op.87 To celebrate the centenary of Dvorák’s death in 2004, four of the country’s most exciting and distinguished young musicians have come together to play his two piano quartets. All of these artists are rising stars of the music world and passionate chamber musicians. Dvorak’s two Piano Quartets are contrasting works. The first (in D major Op.23) is a youthful piece, full of optimism and charm. The second (in E b flat symbol Op.87) is the work of a confidently mature composer and one of Dvorak’s real chamber masterpieces with its effortless melodies and robust Czech dance rhythms. Alongside the two quartets is programmed a work by Mozart who wrote the first great works for this combination.
