THE POWER OF COMPASSION – SACRED SOUNDS FROM TIBET The sacred world of Tibet is filled with the chanting of Buddhist texts, the recitation of mantras, the ringing of bells, the blowing of trumpets and the beating of drums. Eight monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery bring a programme of dances and music illustrating the diversity of this astonishing culture. ‘a psychedelic whirl of chanting, dancing, drums, cymbals and processions…’ The Times PEACE MANDALA & WORKSHOPS SATURDAY 9 & SUNDAY 10 JUNE PERFORMING ARTS STUDIO & REHEARSAL HALL To complement their evening performance the monks will provide hands-on workshops suitable for adults and children including demonstrations and opportunities to try musical instruments, dances, the art of sand mandala-making, butter sculpture, prayer flag printing and Tibetan script and language. The Tibetan monks will construct a Sand Mandala – an intricate picture made entirely of sand – which is used in the Tantric tradition of Tibetan Buddhism as an aid to mediation. It will be possible to observe the monks making the mandala over the weekend.
