Frauke Requardt’s new work Episode draws on the human desire for safety and clarity, unleashing a technicolour sequence of riotous relationships and private revelations. From suburban domesticity to Arctic wilderness, Episode is an unusual and darkly atmospheric experience that revels in the highs and lows of humanity. Episode features a live on-stage soundtrack by pianist Niko Meinhold and Andrew Plummer’s deep, deep voice, alongside an immersive, eerie soundtrack by the Ringham brothers. The collaborative team, among the most risk-taking currently working in theatre, includes exceptional dancers Valentina Formenti, Inn Pang Ooi and Eva Recacha Garcia; and is completed by Hannah Clark’s intriguingly fantastical designs and uncanny lighting from Chahine Yavroyan. Frauke Requardt is a German, London-based choreographer, most recently winning national acclaim for 2010’s hit site-specific show Electric Hotel. She was Associate Artist at The Place from 2004-2006 and is now Associate Artist at Greenwich Dance and a Work Place Artist at The Place. Anarchic and surreal with a good seasoning of dark humour, Frauke’s previous works include performances for the Young Vic, Sadler’s Wells and The Place Prize. **** ‘Weirdly compulsive... urgent, funny and sometimes very touching.’ – The Guardian Episode was commissioned by The Place and is supported by Arts Council England, European Dance Network, Modul Dance, Danshuis StationZuid, Dance Ireland, Greenwich Dance, Jerwood Charitable Trust and Moving East.
