THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE IN 2010 SAMBA FUSION WORKSHOP WITH PERFORMANCE WITH RAVIN 'RAZ' JAYASURIYA FOR EXPERIENCED PLAYERS 10AM – 1PM Raz Jayasuriya of One Voice Music is running a workshop for samba and community drumming groups and individuals. Come and learn a percussion piece that mixes elements of Brazilian & Cuban rhythms creatively arranged to produce energetic music with colourful interplay between the instruments. The material will draw on patterns & phrases from Samba, Maracatu, Samba Reggae, Ijexa & Candomble from Brazil with Bata drumming, Rumba, Conga & Salsa from Cuba. The arrangement will include breaks, choruses for Repiniques, Timbas & Tamborims, syncopated Surdo lines and 2 or 3 different snare patterns played simultaneously. Raz will combine teaching an uplifting, funky dance groove with some work on dynamics and technical studies on individual instruments. Instruments (participants need to provide their own): surdos, repiniques, snares, tamborims, timbas, agogos, cowbells & shakers. Please bring earplugs 10AM – 1PM Workshop 1 – 2PM Lunch 2PM Outdoor sharing from the morning session in the Amphitheatre [no booking required] ********************************** INTRODUCTION TO BRAZILIAN CARNIVAL RHYTHMS WITH RAVIN 'RAZ' JAYASURIYA 2.30 - 3.30PM Come and take part in this one hour workshop for beginners. A great opportunity for you to learn the basics of the percussion played in Brazilian carnival music. There'll be plenty of hands on experience giving you a chance to learn some new skills and be part of a percussion ensemble. Instruments will be provided. Please bring earplugs.
