COLIN CARR CELLO & THOMAS SAUER PIANO
THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE IN 2010 MENDELSSOHN Sonata No.2 in D, Op.58 SCHUMANN Funf Stücke im Volkston, Op.102 MENDELSSOHN Variationes Concertantes, Op.17 BRAHMS Sonata No.2 in F, Op.99 Regular visitors and firm Lakeside favourites, internationally renowned cellist Colin Carr and pianist Thomas Sauer return with a programme of Romantic works which spans the gamut of emotions from Schumann’s folk-style inspired pieces to the rich maturity of Brahms’s last cello sonata. Mendelssohn’s D major Sonata opens the concert in joyful mood. His Variationes Concertantes were written for his talented 14 year-old brother in 1829. Brahms’s second cello sonata was written for his friend Robert Hausmann whose generous tone enabled the cello to compete equally with the demanding piano part. The concert finishes at approximately 9.15pm '...a noble and elevating evening' The Strad, Wigmore Hall review September 2009.
