THIS EXHIBITION TOOK PLACE IN 2009 The exhibition Life Less Ordinary, looks at performance and display in contemporary South African art. Race, nationhood, ethnicity, sexuality, religion and belonging are explored by an extraordinary range of contemporary artists from South Africa. This exhibition is the inspiration behind an exciting opportunity: to work for a day with artist / filmmaker Dan Saul, and poet / musician Dave ‘Stickman’ Higgins. The practitioners are dynamic and experienced workshop facilitators with many high-profile arts events listed on their CV’s. They are planning to combine word based activities with digital photography to explore identity and what this means to the workshop participants, as well as to the post–apartheid South Africans represented in the exhibition. Places for this workshop should be booked in advance on 0115 846 7777. In the unlikely event that these workshops are under-subscribed, Lakeside reserves the right to cancel four working days in advance and bookers will be notified and refunded. ‘Europa’ 2008, Nandipha Mntambo, © the artist.
