THIS WORKSHOP TOOK PLACE IN 2009 ARTS OF THE BOOK LED BY UNAIZA KARIM SUNDAY 22 MARCH 2009 11AM - 1.30PM An opportunity to gain an insight into some of the traditional tools, materials and techniques used in adorning the page in Islamic art. Participants will choose traditional motifs found in Quranic illumination (either a simple sun 'shamsa' or a tree motif 'sajra') and transfer it on to a piece of vellum (calf skin). Following a demonstration in the use of paint and shell gold, participants will go on to paint their chosen motif and use a burnishing tool to shine up any areas painted in gold. This workshop has been specially arranged to coincide with the BruNotts Games and is open to members of the student community. Click here to view the flyer ART WORKSHOP FOR FAMILIES LED BY UNAIZA KARIM SUNDAY 22 MARCH 2009 2.30 - 4 PM This is a special opportunity to join inspirational artist,Unaiza Karim in the beautiful surroundings of Lakeside Arts Centre at the University of Nottingham. Unaiza will be giving participants a taste of the traditional ‘halkar’ painting technique used in Ottoman illumination. After watching a demonstration of the painting technique, you will be able paint your own plant motif. This is a workshop for children over 8 years old, and their families.
