THIS PERFORMANCE TOOK PLACE IN 2008 From Kyoto, Shichiseikai is a group of six Buddhist monks who perform the ceremonies, rituals and shomy (Buddhist sutra chanting) of the Jodo sect of Buddhism. Shichiseikai’s voices resonate in unison creating a rich variety of harmonic overtones. While carrying on the tradition of shomyo, the group has also created a new form of music through the application of shomyo's unique notions of the male voice and chorus which they perform with bansurai (bamboo flute) accompaniment. This extremely spiritual performance has played to capacity audiences on previous visits to the UK and makes a welcome return to Lakeside. The performance finishes at approximately 9.30pm
