THIS PERFORMANCE TOOK PLACE IN 2008 RUNNING TIME: 75 MINS By Paul Buie Painkillers is a pulsating exploration of the mind of a woman who has killed. It documents the twists and turns in a developing conversation over several interview sessions between Nadia, a journalist and Angela, a convicted killer. Film, soundscape and dialogue uncover a chilling story that reaches back before the circumstances of the death, into early childhood and the painful experiences that form the seeds of later events. Our sympathies shift as the stakes are raised and the truth slowly emerges into view. The play delivers a sustained emotional intensity while, simultaneously, offering passages of genuine humour. A Moving picture of vulnerability from every angle…Completely enthralling - Three Weeks
