THIS EXHIBITION TOOK PLACE IN 2008 In January to March 2008, Lakeside Arts Centre will host a residency by two Chinese artists, Ji Weiyu and Song Tao, who collaborate under the name of Birdhead. In their native city Shanghai, Birdhead produce an annual photographic diary of lives lived through China’s ‘economic miracle’ and against the backdrop of the changing face of the metropolis. The residency has been funded by an Arts Council England Fellowship Award. During their time in the UK the artists will be based in the artists’ studio space at the DH Lawrence Pavilion. The award is intended to allow an opportunity for research in the UK and cultural exchange between visiting artists and UK practitioners. An organised programme of lectures and events will introduce their work and an understanding of contemporary Chinese art to a wider audience including undergraduates in Fine art, photography and art history, regional artists and the wider public.
