THIS PERFORMANCE TOOK PLACE IN 2007 HAYDN Symphony No.6 in D, 'Le matin' BACH Brandenburg Concerto No.5 STRAVINSKY Danses concertantes The University Philharmonia begins the academic year in an optimistic mood with the musical portrayal of a sunrise which opens Haydn’s gloriously inventive early symphony, Le Matin. PhD student Peter Siepmann joins the orchestra to perform the virtuosic solo harpsichord role in Bach’s invigorating Brandenburg Concerto, and the concert closes with joyous rhythmic vitality of Danses concertantes, in which Stravinsky pays homage to the genius of his musical forebears.
