THIS PERFORMANCE TOOK PLACE IN 2007 HAYDN String Quartet in D, Op.64 No.5 ‘The Lark’ BEETHOVEN String Quartet in C minor, Op.18 No.4 BRAHMS Piano Quintet in F minor, Op.34 One of the great Czech string quartets, the Wihan Quartet joins forces with the brilliant young Czech pianist Libor Novácek for this concert. Formed in 1985, and still made up of the original four members, the Wihan Quartet has developed an outstanding reputation for the interpretation of masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire. They won both First Prize and Audience Prize in the 1991 London International String Quartet Competition and have developed an impressive international career, performing in major festivals across Europe, USA, Australia and the Far East. Selected for representation by Young Concert Artists Trust in 2004, Novácek’s first two CDs were released in 2006 to outstanding reviews in the BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone Magazine and International Record Review. In February 2007, his CD of Liszt piano music was selected Editor's Choice in Gramophone Magazine.
