THIS PERFORMANCE TOOK PLACE IN 2007 HANDEL Suite No. 8 in F minor, HWV 433 SCHUBERT Sonata in C minor, D958 DEBUSSY Préludes, Book II Andrew Brownell has won numerous international prizes, including 2nd Prize and Benjamin Britten Special Prize at the 2006 Leeds International Pianoforte Competition and 1st Prize at the 2005 J.N. Hummel Competition in Bratislava. The concert includes the dramatic C minor Sonata, D958 written late in Schubert’s life, and Debussy’s Préludes, which veer between atmospheric pieces such as ‘Brouillards’ (‘Mists’), and the exotic habanera ‘La Puerto del Vino’ to the affectionate character portrait ‘Hommage à S.Pickwick’.
