If you are aged 8 to 16 years and enjoy History and Archaeology, join our Young Archaeologists Club. Get your hands mucky by doing real archaeology, such as Roman food tasting, castle building, visiting historical and archaeological sites, handling ancient artefacts and participating in excavations.

27 April - Marvellous Maps
Working with the University of Nottingham Manuscripts and Special Collections Department
Explore about the different types of maps from the archives and how they can lead - and mislead! – travellers, and discover how to decode place names to find out more about the landscape and the people who lived there centuries ago. You’ll also have a go writing with a feather quill and ink, just like the map-makers used to.

Archaeoskeletons with the Department of Archaeology, University of Nottingham. Come and explore skeletons (human, bird and animal) with osteodetectives Dr Hannah O’Regan and Dr Holly Miller from the University of Nottingham. We’ll be looking at what we can learn from bones, both about the evolution of the animals, and how the remains we find on archaeological sites can tell us about the past. Bring any bones or teeth you’d like to have identified too!

Learn about and handle ancient coins, then have a go at designing your own.
