George IV inherited the throne at a time of economic stress and popular political unrest, accompanied by a constitutional crisis over the status of his wife, Queen Caroline. On the bicentenary of George IV’s accession, Professor Malcolm Chase of the University of Leeds considers the strength of popular political feeling in Britain during a year of European revolutions.
