Fauré Masques et Bergamasques, Op.112 Milhaud La Création du monde Beethoven Symphony No.6 in F ‘Pastoral’
Composed in 1918 at the behest of Prince Albert I of Monaco Masques et Bergamasques is a pastiche of an 18th-century fête galant. The four-movement orchestral suite is drawn from Fauré’s theatrical work. Milhaud’s ballet La Création du monde was premiered in Paris in 1923. Strongly influenced by the jazz he heard in New York, Milhaud includes saxophone in the 18-piece ensemble. Following a French first half, the University Philharmonia performs the ‘Pastoral’ Symphony which so effectively conveys Beethoven’s love of nature.
