Catrin Finch & Cimarrón
A rare chance to witness a thrilling global collaboration between one of the world’s leading harp players Catrin Finch and the six-piece Grammy-nominated Colombian band Cimarrón. They perform joropo dance music from the cattle-rearing plains of the Orinoco: wild, untamed music rooted in a tradition defined by the mestizo mixed heritage of African, Spanish and indigenous cultures.
Fast-paced and powerful, with impetuous singing, amazing stomp dancing and fierce instrumental virtuosity of strings and percussion this is music that preserves the spirit of freedom found in one of the world’s most untouched regions.
Sadly Cimarrón’s musical director and harp player Carlos Rojas Hernández died on Friday 10 January 2020 in Bogotá, Colombia following a short illness. Whilst these are incredibly sad circumstances, Cimarrón is committed to honouring the legacy, memory, life and work of its director and harpist and, as a result, its UK tour with Catrin Finch will be going ahead as planned. Harpist Duvan Rodolfo will play in place of Carlos Rojas.
