Bruckner Motets: Libera me, Afferentur regi & Christus factus est Louise Farrenc Symphony No.3 Mozart Requiem
Conductors Jonathan Tilbrook Katie Temple Henry Chappell Zoe Nendick
University Choir and Philharmonia combine for a concert of well-known and less familiar works.
Louise Farrenc, a 19th-century French composer and pianist, was a teacher at the Paris Conservatoire. She campaigned for – and eventually secured – equal pay with her male counterparts. Symphony No.3 is bold and energetic with memorable, attractive melodies. Although Mozart died before completing his Requiem it is one of the most popular works in the choral canon; however, owing to its programming demands, the University last performed it 20 years ago making this a concert not to be missed.
