Roussel Le Festin de l'araignée (The spider's feast)

The first University concert of the academic year features Copland’s lyrical concerto commissioned by jazz clarinettist Benny Goodman in 1947 performed by third-year Music student Matthew Walker. Albert Roussel’s ballet Le Festin de l'araignée composed in 1912 is set in a country garden. Various insects including a butterfly, mayfly and dung beetle, become trapped in a spider’s web. As the spider prepares for its feast it meets its own demise…

1 hour 45 minutes including interval.
