The Orlando Consort’s programme, ‘Passion’, presents sublime music of the early Renaissance from England and continental Europe. For many centuries – until Christmas took over – Easter was regarded as the most important event in the church calendar and composers were inspired to write heart-felt music that charted all the stages of the Easter story, from deepest despair to the celebration of the Resurrection. The concert features commentaries on the Passion by John Dunstaple, Sheryngham and anonymous English composers of the late 15th and early 16th-centuries, set alongside glorious music by celebrated masters of the age, including Loyset Compère, Guillaume Dufay and Heinrich Isaac.
Please note this concert has been re-scheduled from March 2017.
