J.S. Bach: Jesu Meine Freude
David Lang: The Little Match Girl Passion

Director and Designer: Josh Armstrong

Singers: Nicola Corbishley, Anna Crookes (Bach only), Lucy Goddard, Christopher Watson and Jimmy Holliday

Cryptic presents David Lang's Pulitzer Prize winning The Little Match Girl Passion, combining Hans Christian Andersen's heart-breaking tale with JS Bach's setting of the St Matthew Passion. In a unique presentation of this previously unstaged masterpiece, the tragic story of the little match girl is brought to life by vocal ensemble and percussion.

Reverent and gracious, JS Bach's commemorative masterpiece Jesu, meine Freude acts as a poignant percursor to the fragile beauty of the little match girl.

Saturated with symbolism...artful, sobering...timely stuff.
