Most people know that William the Conqueror defeated Harold at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, becoming king of England. But what did this conquest mean for ordinary English citizens? Studying the coins from the period can reveal some surprising stories of the people living through this period of political change.

For this she drew together the largest dataset of these coins yet compiled, and undertook a detailed examination to reveal new narratives of early Norman England. This talk presents some of her findings.
