The site of Vindolanda, a part of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site, was a place of frenetic activity and change throughout its long Roman and Post-Roman history. This lecture looks at some of the most recent results from the on-going excavation at the site. These have produced more of Britain’s top treasures, the Vindolanda ink writing tablets, a wooden toilet seat and a wide variety of material culture which helps archaeologists to put the flesh back on the bones of military communities along the frontier.
With Dr Andrew Birley, CEO and Director of Excavations, The Vindolanda Trust.
