Bad Behaviour charts a subversive streak in contemporary art, focussing on a generation of artists who challenge conventions and overturn established principles and social codes. Whether exploring instances of excess and antisocial behaviour, sexual taboos or political subversion, the featured artists set out to question the boundaries of acceptable behaviour.
For the most part the artists in Bad Behaviour could be described as subtle subversives, making works that quietly infiltrate institutional structures. Often the artist’s means are playfully intrusive, lightened by a measure of cynicism, a colloquial vocabulary and tongue-in-cheek humour.
Featuring over 50 works from the Arts Council Collection, this National Touring Exhibition from the Hayward Gallery, South Bank Centre, presents contemporary British sculpture, installation, photography and video from the 80s to the present day. Including work by Fiona Banner, Liam Gillick, Christine Borland, Martin Creed, Anya Gallaccio, John Isaacs, Tania Kovats, Cornelia Parker, Grayson Perry, Mark Wallinger and Richard Wilson.
WARNING: Please note that Bad Behaviour includes words and images that some people may find offensive.
A National Touring Exhibition organised by the Hayward Gallery for Arts Council England.
