Andrew Wright’s vibrant, figurative paintings examine the effects of racism and stereotyping on youth culture in contemporary Britain. Holding up a mirror to our so-called mixed society, he shows how a young black person is presented with a series of archetypal views of ethnicity. In defiance of these limiting perspectives, modern street culture has embraced alternative values and lifestyles to find new levels of understanding and communication. The exhibition also comprises a music sound track (available on CD and vinyl) composed and performed by the artist.
