The Art of Dinosaur Science

Open:
Tuesday - Saturday 11am - 5pm
Sunday - 12noon - 4pm

In a unique partnership between Nottingham City Council and the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Lakeside Arts is thrilled to welcome a Dilophosaurus and an Alxasaurus to Lakeside as part of the world exclusive Dinosaurs of China exhibition – taking place across Wollaton Hall and Nottingham Lakeside Arts from July to October.

Lakeside’s interactive exhibition presents evidence for the evolution of birds from dinosaurs. Recent fossil discoveries from China have led to new ideas of how dinosaurs looked. These Chinese dinosaurs show that dinosaurs could be beaked, fuzzy, feathery, and colourful, exactly like modern birds. Depicting how these dinosaurs looked requires both scientific knowledge and artistic creativity.

Explore how our perceptions of dinosaurs have, and continue to be, shaped by paleo-art – scientifically informed illustrations of the prehistoric world. Become a palaeontologist for the day and discover our two Chinese dinosaurs, an ichthyosaur, and many prehistoric fossil casts from the University of Nottingham’s collections. See our volcano erupt, get creative with our dino arts and crafts, and complete our prehistoric fact sheets to learn all about China’s feathered dinosaurs.
