Student Summer Music Festival

For the final concert of the festival, University Festival Orchestra and the contemporary music ensemble Contempo present a concert celebrating English composers. Elgar’s Cello Concerto is an elegiac lament, written at the end of the First World War which remains one of the best-loved cello concertos in the repertoire. Britten’s haunting Sea Interludes which was extracted as a concert work from his opera Peter Grimes even before the opera’s first performance, is a vivid orchestral seascape evoking the rolling swell of the waves and its ever-changing moods. Performances of new works by two University of Nottingham final-year student composers provide a fitting way of celebrating the end of the academic year!
