UNIVERSITY WIND ORCHESTRA & SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE

Eleanor Brooks, a third year music student, is the soloist in Mike Mower’s dazzling Flute Concerto. Mower was one of the founding members of the saxophone quartet Itchy Fingers, and the piece fizzes with the mercurial energy and blistering jazz riffs for which they were famed. We are also delighted to present the premieres of two student works: Ben Dunne’s Three Movements, an intriguing exploration of the tone colours of the double reed ensemble and James Crockford’s Arcadia, a work inspired by the world of computer games. In contrast, Eric Whitacre’s haunting Sleep abounds with lush harmonies that create a gentle, plaintive tone-poem. The programme is completed by two great showpieces for band. All in all, an unmissable evening!
