BENJAMIN FRITH & PETER HILL
MOZART Fantasia in F minor K608 RACHMANINOV 6 pieces Op.11 BEETHOVEN Grosse Fugue (in Beethoven’s arrangement) STRAVINSKY The Rite of Spring Beethoven’s draft score for the Grosse Fugue, the piano four-hands version of the Op.133 string quartet finale, was discovered in a Philadelphia seminary last summer having been lost since 1890. The manuscript was auctioned by Sotheby’s in December 2005 for £1.12 million. Although the work itself had been published much earlier, the discovery of Beethoven’s original manuscript generated much interest and this concert provides a wonderful opportunity to hear this monumental work together with Stravinsky’s tour-de-force The Rite of Spring. 6.45pm pre-concert talk Philip Weller and Peter Hill.
