BEETHOVEN Sonata in A minor, Op.23 Sonata in F, Op.24 ‘Spring’ Sonata in A, Op.47 ‘Kreutzer’ Beethoven’s violin sonatas as they would have been heard in the eighteenth century. The violins Beethoven knew were strung with gut, their bows light and dancing. The pianos he delighted in were lightly strung, with clear basses and nutty trebles. When his sonatas are played on early instruments, in the style of the time, all the old clichés about cleaning up an Old Master come into play. Dark heaviness turns to luminous colour. A concert which promises to be a musical revelation. Pre-concert Talk - 7pm in Djanogly Recital Hall
