THE BLACK VELVET BAND
John Harle saxophones Paul Clarvis percussion Steve Lodder keyboards Neil McColl guitars with special guest singer Sarah-Jane Morris A legendary sax player, John Harle was introduced to the voice of Norfolk singer and farm labourer Harry Cox when writing the music for Simon Schama’s popular BBC TV History of Britain. He decided to take this voice and repertoire of traditional English folk song and create a musical ‘History of Britain’. The Black Velvet Band perform settings of Harry Cox’s traditional and unaccompanied songs in arrangements by Dominic Muldowney (Royal National Theatre), renowned composer, Richard Rodney-Bennett and band members Neil McColl and John Harle amongst others.
