The hugely popular Allegri performs a varied programme featuring Mozart,Shostakovich, and Beethoven. Mozart's quartet is dedicated to his friend and mentor Haydn. Shostakovich’s Eleventh Quartet is a piece in seven short movements paying tribute to the violin and its origins particularly as the ‘fiddle’ in folk dancing. Beethoven was completely deaf by the time he wrote the String Quartet in A minor, Op.132, yet it is amongst the most sublime music ever written. Pre-concert lecture demonstration by Philip Weller Djanogly Recital Hall, 6.30pm.
