It's a spectacular morality play in which a journalist, disillusioned and jaded, wanders a decadent Rome in search of himself. Filled with gloriously memorable images, the shot of a helicopter lifting Christ's statue out of Rome is iconic. Cinematic Rome 17-18 September: the conference explores the image of the city as mise-en-scene and myth in film, both Italian and international.
